We are happy to invite you to a lecture and meditation with the student of Lama Ole Nydahl and Buddhist teacher, Rafal Olech, at Athens Diamond Way Buddhist Center. The lecture will be in English with a Greek translation.

The program:

Lecture topic: “Karma – Cause and effect”.
Followed by a guided meditation on the 16th Karmapa.

Lecture topic: Working with disturbing emotions”
Followed by a guided meditation on the 16th Karmapa.

About Rafal: Rafal Olech became a student of Lama Ole in 1987 and since 1994 has been involved in the activities of Diamond Way Buddhism in Poland. He has actively participated in the establishment and operation of Buddhist centers in Warsaw and in the design and publication of Diamentowa Droga magazine as well as the books of Lama Ole. He has travelled with Lama Ole to Europe, Russia, the United States of America, Australia and Central America and has been lecturing at Lama Ole’s request since 1999. Rafal has been a member of the Karma Kagyu Diamond Way Council in Poland. He is an art director and designer by profession. He is the father of 2 children.

History of the Buddhist center in Athens

1975

Diamond Way Buddhism through its Karma Kagyu Lineage first came in Greece in 1975, when Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah were invited by a group of Greeks interested in Tibetan Buddhism. Since then, a lot of important Tibetan lamas and western teachers have visited Greece to teach the Buddhist philosophy and meditation.

1978

Lama Ole Nydahl accompanied His Holiness 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje in Athens and founded the first Buddhist Center.

1988

Lama Ole Nydahl together with the members of the Athens Buddhist Center, founded the first short-retreat center in Karma Berchen Ling, in a mountain of Corinth, where the Kalachakra Stupa was built in 2010, with the participation of lots of friends from all over the world.

2001

Buddhism was officially recognized as a religion in Greece through the recognition of the Athens Buddhist Karma Kagyu Diamond Way Center.

2004

The International Committee of Olympic Games “Athens 2004” asked Lama Ole Nydahl to organise the Buddhist Services of the Olympic Village for athletes and their escorts. With the support of the International Diamond Way Foundation, many Greeks and foreign teachers and students of Lama Ole Nydahl, participated as volunteers for the program of meditations throughout the Olympic games.

2005

Hanna Nydahl accompanied His Holiness 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, on his first visit to Athens.

2015

The 40-year presence of Diamond Way Buddhism in Greece was celebrated in Thessaloniki with the collaboration of all three Centers of Greece.
